This paper offers an approximation to the so-called quantitative and qualitative debates. As a starting point, such approximation does not try to simplify or reduce the question. Instead, it seeks to take into account the multiple dimensions that are relevant to the discussion. Starting from the distinction between an analytical and a synthetic conception of knowledge, the author discusses the merits of a dialectical logic versus formal logic and resumes the scholastic view on the knowledge of the singular, to conclude with a commitment to the progressive perfection of necessarily imperfect concepts through which we deal with the singular.Este trabajo ofrece una aproximación a los llamados debates entre cuantitativistas y cualitativistas que, como punto de partida, no intenta simplificar ni reducir la cuestión, sino abordarla considerando las múltiples dimensiones que la conforman. Partiendo de la distinción entre una concepción analítica y otra sintética del conocimiento, el autor discute los méritos de una lógica dialéctica versus la lógica formal y retoma la visión escolástica sobre el conocimiento de lo singular, para concluir con una apuesta por el progresivo perfeccionamiento de los necesariamente imperfectos conceptos a través de los cuales lidiamos con lo singular.
