The article explains how Walter Benjamin presents, as clearly as did Paul Klee in his Angelus Novus, human history as it vacillates between the different concepts. It analyses the polarity of the concept of history as an environment where redemption is possible. It sustains that Benjamin envisions the idea of history as a way to fracture the myth of progress and the concept of linear temporality. Supported by the thoughts of Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, this member of the Frankfurt School proposes the idea of time as an experience that allows the past to go beyond itself, conserved in actions and in works that suspend time, therefore permitting the perception of the throbbing desire for redemption.El artículo explica cómo Walter Benjamin traza una fisura en el pasmo del ángel de la historia, representado por el Angelus Novus de Paul Klee, clavándole una astilla redentora en las alas. Analiza la polaridad de la concepción de la historia en tanto catástrofe signada por el ideal moderno de progreso y la imagen de esa misma historia como ámbito en el cual es posible la redención. Sostiene que Benjamin configura su idea de historia fracturando el mito del progreso y el concepto de la temporalidad lineal. Tomando aportes del pensamiento schopenhaueriano y nietzscheano, el pensador de la Escuela de Frankfurt postula un tiempo pleno cuya experiencia permite que el pasado vaya más allá de sí mismo y se conserve en actos y, más aún, en obras que lo suspenden dejando ver los latidos de su afán de redención.
