This article makes an assessment of the testimonies as a source for the study of borders and also makes a synthesis about the antecedents of the border region between Mexico and Guatemala. Analyze how the border was perceived in the testimonies of the militants of the Guatemalan armed movements. The conclusions highlight the advantages and limitations that testimony provides in studies of this nature. This type of analysis highlights epistemological issues with practical difficulties of investigation and with autobiographical reflections, confessions and even hidden obsessions in the making of social knowledge.El presente artículo realiza una valoración de los testimonios como fuente para el estudio de las fronteras y hace también una síntesis sobre los antecedentes de la región fronteriza entre México y Guatemala. Analiza cómo fue percibida la frontera en los testimonios de los militantes de los movimientos armados guatemaltecos. Las conclusiones ponen de relieve las ventajas y las limitaciones que proporciona el testimonio en estudios de esta naturaleza. Este tipo de análisis pone de relieve cuestiones epistemológicas con dificultades prácticas de investigación y con reflexiones de tipo autobiográfico, confesiones y hasta ocultas obsesiones en la fabricación del conocimiento social.
